
The Case Demonstration Series: Episode I, featuring a clinical case involving a goat. This immersive two-phase event kicked off with a detailed clinical assessment at the IAAS Farm, where participants gained firsthand experience in evaluating the goat’s health condition.
Diagnosis
A. Physical examination
1. Fish tail
2. Achromotrichia ( loss of pigmentation in hair and greyish or redenning of hair ) due to deficiency in tyrosinase enzyme due to copper deficiency as tyrosinase convert tyrosine to melanin)
3. Spectacle ( loss of hair around eye that look like spectacle
4. Hindlimb ataxia
5 . Sway back as seen in video
6 . Anemia ( pale mucous membrane )
7 . Dehydrated
8. Watery yellow green mucoid diarrhoea.
In Phase 2, blood samples was collected for laboratory analysis at the Medicine Lab, IAAS, TU, allowing participants to dive deeper into diagnostic techniques and pathology.
B. Lab diagnosis ( Blood smear )
1. Heinz body anemia ( typical sign of Cu deficiency in blood smear ).
2. MICROCYTIC HYPOCHROMIC ANEMIA i.e. Iron deficiency anemia seen in blood smear( MCV low and MCHC low ) .
After a thorough examination, the diagnosis was confirmed as Copper Deficiency in goat and two kids!
