CELEBRATION OF WORLD RABIES WEEK- 2022

As part of IVSA Animal Welfare Project, International Veterinary Students’ Association (IVSA) Paklihawa in collaboration with Rotaract club of Lumbini buddhaRotaract club of Bhairahawa, Rotaract club of central Lumbini, Rotaract club of Bhairahawa Chaturi and Nepal Veterinary Association- Lumbini Province collectively organized a week long event with the theme Rabies: One Health, Zero Deaths scheduled as given below.

Day 1 Week inauguration and school awareness program (September 22 2022)

To raise awareness against rabies among students IVSA Paklihawa conducted school awareness in two schools of Siddharthanagar, Bhairahawa, Rupandehi namely Belhaiya Secondary School and Bhanu Secondary School. Students of grade 8,9 and 10 were well informed about rabies transmission its prevention and their role in creating a Rabies free society. All the information were presented through a power point presentation and at the end of presentation there was an audio video session for the ease of understanding. There was a Question-and-answer session to address different queries at the end of session. Mr. Min Bahadur Oli (SCoVE Coordinator), Mr. Saurabh Bastola (EXCO Member), Mr. Bigyan Karki (SCoVE member) and Mr. Sumiran Pokhrel (SCAW Member) of IVSA Paklihawa were the presenter, providing students with thorough knowledge of rabies.
A total of 150 students were benefited through this program.

Day 2 school awareness program (September 23 2022)

IVSA Paklihawa conducted awareness program against rabies in Bhairahawa Model Secondary School, and Shree Susanskrit Secondary School of Siddharthanagar Rupandehi. Mr. Min Bhadur Oli (SCoVE Coordinator), Mr. Anurag Silwal (SCOH Coordinator), Mr. Saurabh Bastola (EXCO Member) and Mr. Parshuram Berma (General Member) of IVSA Paklihawa were the presenter, providing students with thorough knowledge of rabies.
A total of 150 students were benefited through this program.

Day 3 inter school speech competition (September 24 2022)

Interschool speech competition on topic: Rabies; its symptoms and ways of prevention was organised to raise awareness and to promote the art of public speaking among students. A total of 25 Students of grade 8, 9, 10 from different government schools of Bhairahawa participated in the program. The program lasted for about 2 and half hours. Dr Yuvraj Panth (General Secretary, Nepal Veterinary Association Lumbini Province) and Dr Kiran Bhandari (Veterinary clinician, Veterinary Hospitals and Livestock Services Expert Centre, Rupandehi) were judges of the competition.

Second Runner up: Ram Bdr. Sanari of Belaihya Secondary School

Day 4 Hanging rabies awareness banner in public places (September 25 2022)

15 posters were posted in different school and public places of Siddharthanagar Bhairahawa, Rupandehi with aim to spread awareness among the people.

Day 5 Mass rabies vaccination and reflective collar installation (September 26 2022)

IVSA Paklihawa conducted mass rabies vaccination program and reflective collar installation on street dogs of Siddharthanagar, Rupandehi with main motive to eradicate rabies in the street dogs and to reduce road accidents. The campaign started from 7:45 am and took around 3 hrs.
A total of 90 dogs were vaccinated and around 70 collars were installed.

Day 6: Mass rabies vaccination and reflective collar installation (September 27 2022)

Mass rabies vaccination program and reflective collar installation on street dogs of Siddharthanagar, Rupandehi was continued. The campaign started from 4:30 pm and took around 3 hrs.
A total of 60 dogs were vaccinated and around 30 collars were installed.

Day 7:  Rally, Speech competition, Winner announcement and formal ending (September 28 2022)

Rabies week for the year 2022 was concluded by making an awareness rally starting from Lumbini gate to Devkota chowk and then ending in the Narayansthan Bhairahawa. The closing program of Rabies week was held under the Presidency of Mr. Prakash Rawal, President of IVSA Paklihawa and presence of Secretory of Nepal Veterinary Association Lumbini Province Dr Yuvraj Panth, President of Rotaract Club of Bhairahawa Rtr. Ankit Paudel, Rotaract Club of Bhairahawa Club Advisor and Zone -31 AG Rtn. Sajiv Sharma Regmi, Charter President of Rotary Club of Bhairahwa and District Public Image Co-chair Rtn. Raj Kumar Gupta, Past President of Rotaract Club of Bhairahawa and DRC member Rtn/Rtr. Sarita Rana, Charter President of Rotaract Club of Bhairahawa Rtr. Prakash Sharma, Zone - 18 ZRR Rtr. Biru Kumar Gupta and Past president of Rotary Club of Lumbini Siddharthanagar and Training forum Rtn/Rtr. Dinesh Agrawal.

At the last the winners of Speech competition were provided with prize and certificate.
Winner: Ms. Pooja Teli of Shree Susanskrit Secondary School was provided with a
certificate and a cash prize of Rs. 3000
First Runner up: Ms. Pallavi Nepali of Bhairahawa Model Secondary School was provided
with a certificate and a cash prize of Rs. 2000
Second Runner up: Mr. Ram Bdr. Sanari of Belaihya Secondary School was provided with a
certificate and cash prize of Rs. 1000
The week-long Rabies awareness for ended by thanking all the helping hands and volunteers
that made this program fruitful.
