Free Animal Health Camp 2079

The Standing Committee on Animal Welfare (SCAW) of the International Veterinary Students' Association (IVSA) Paklihawa, a local chapter of the IVSA Nepal, organized a "Free Animal Health Camp 2079" at ’ Kotahimai-02, Bhuwari on 20th of Falgun 2079 ( 4th March 2023). to raise awareness about animal welfare among local people and to treat sick and injured animals.

A Google Form was also provided by IVSA Paklihawa on the 1st march 2023 that was to be filled out by interested students who were interested in participating in the health camp as volunteers not later than the 3 march 2023 (12:00 PM).

Survey on Campsite 

On 2079/11//18 (2023/03/1) from 11:00 am onwards Survey was done at the kotahimai rural municipality word no 2 and its periphery .

The survey was conducted to find out about the type of animal, the number of animals, and the disorders they suffer from. The main goal was to know what types of diseases were prevalent in advance so that the camp would include their treatment.

Ten volunteers from IVSA Paklihawa conducted the survey. The survey included about 120 households and farms.

The survey included the following thing

  1. Name of the owner
  2. Type of Animal they own
  3. No. of animals
  4. Type of disorder that animals face
  5. Do they know about Veterinary Teaching Hospital IAAS Paklihawa

Animal Health Camp

Mr. Bigyan Karki (SCoW Coordinator, IVSA Paklihawa) coordinated the camp. Mr.Min Bahadur Oli(Secretary, IVSA Paklihawa) moderated the formal program under the chairmanship of Mr. Sujit Regmi (President, IVSA Paklihawa).

The Health Camp was chaired by Mr. Amarnath Yadav, Chairman at Bhuwari, Kotahimai-02, as our chief guest , Dr. Birendra Shrestha (Asst.Professor, Paklihawa campus , IAAS ), Dr. Suman Kumar Singh (Asst.Professor, Paklihawa campus , IAAS ) , Dr. Manish Gautam, Dr. Subash Belbase (Veterinary Officer at Siyari Rural Municipality ), Dr. Santosh Yadav ( Veterinary Officer at Animal Quarantine Office), Mahendra Gautam (Technical Officer , Kotahimai Rural Municipality), Prakash Rawal (Former President of IVSA Paklihawa) , Samikshya Bhusal (Exchange Officer of IVSA Nepal) , Karishma Pokhrel (Former EO of IVSA Nepal), Anil Pokhrel ( PRC at IVSA Nepal), different personnel as Medical Representatives from different Pharmaceutical Companies as guests. In total, about 135 farmers from 5 different wards were registered for the camp, which ran from 9:00 AM. to 3:00 PM Around 470 livestock including Buffalo, Cows, and Goat along with Poultry were treated and were provided free medical checkups along with medicines.

The Free Health Camp was supported by Veterinary Teaching Hospital, IAAS, TU, Ward no-2, Kotahimai rural Municipality, and Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Expert Center, Bhairahawa, Rupandehi. Also many many thanks to Nutrivet Pharmaceutical, Asian Pharmaceutical, Bhaskar Herbal & MDH Pharmaceutical for providing us with the medicines.

For the ease of Farmers, there were different departments namely

  1. Registration and history taking
  2. Physical examination and vital sign
  3. Prescription
  4. Medicine distribution
  5. Castration
  6. Rectal palpation and ultrasound
  7. Fecal examination
  8. Vaccination

Other departments were handled by 45 different volunteers.

The program was a grand success. We are determined to carry on these types of projects in the coming days too. Lastly , we would like to thank all the volunteers for their support. We beleive we get these types of support from all sectors.
